Wilhemina Abeyadeera, born on October 11, 1928, in Colombo, Sri Lanka passed away on February 27, 2024, at the age of 95. A woman of unwavering faith, she devoted her life to the teachings of God, spreading love and kindness wherever she went. Having taught English and Music in Sri Lanka before relocating to the United States in her 60s, Wilhemina was a dedicated teacher who touched the lives of many with her passion for education.
Wilhemina embraced her role as a mentor, guiding her students not only academically but also spiritually. Her compassion extended beyond the classroom, as she tirelessly worked to bring solace and support to the homeless, embodying the true essence of humanitarianism. She was preceded in death by her parents, Methurin Hewa and Chatrawarthighe Louisa Fernando; husband, Prince Abeyadeera; sisters, Patricia Hewa, Honerine Carmelite Nun Sister Assumption, Noeline Abeyadeera and Lilamani Pinto.
Wilhemina is survived by her loving children: son, Priann Abeyadeera, daughters, Dini Råberg and Sanjay Abeyadeera, who shares their mother's commitment to serving others with grace and humility. She is also survived by her grandson, Leon Abeyadeera, granddaughters, Pauline Råberg, Minelli Abeyaddera, Hiromi Thomas, Nimshi Perera and grandson, Manesh Perera; great grandchildren, Daniel Abeyaddera, Michael Abeyadeera, Annika Thomas and Vartkez Arstruni. In honoring Wilhemina's legacy of faith and benevolence, her family has chosen cremation as her final disposition.
Funeral services and ceremonies to celebrate the life of Wilhemina Abeyadeera was held on March 9, 2024, at Living Word Church, providing an opportunity for all those whose lives she touched to come together in reverence and remembrance. May her soul find eternal peace in the loving embrace of her Creator.
