William Hodges Baker William Hodges Baker, passed away at the Methodist Hospital in Sugarland, TX on April 23, 2019, surrounded by his friends and family. He was 66 years old. He was born March 28, 1953 to the late Charles and Hallie Baker. Bill or "Sweet Willie" or "Whispering Bill", as know to his golfing buddies was a native Whartonian and he graduated from Wharton High School in 1971. He attended Southwestern, in Georgetown, where he played golf for one year prior to being drafted into the United States Army in 1972. After serving in the military, Bill returned back to his hometown of Wharton where he began is lifelong career in the chemical industry. After 30 years of employment, Bill was able to retire and continue his deep love for golfing, being in the outdoors, talking on the telephone to his friends and being with family. Bill is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sharon Baker and his children; Tiffani Harris of Brooklyn, New York and MacKenzie Baker of Rosenberg, TX. His sister in law, wife of deceased brother, Joe Baker and their sons, Scott Baker and his wife Karen and their child, Andy Baker and his wife Erin and their children and Matthew Baker and his child. Brother Bob Baker and his wife Beverly and their two children, Colton Baker and his family and Hayley Baker, Visitation was held April 26th at the Wharton Funeral Home from 5pm-8pm. Funeral services were held on April 27th at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Wharton TX at 1pm. Burial service was held at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers are Bob Baker, Scott Baker, Andy Baker, Matthew Baker and Colton Baker. Honorary Pallbearers are Ralph Conner, Paul Fertsch, James Folmar and Larry Hill and Larry Hill
