William James “Bill” Hubenak

William James “Bill” Hubenak went to be with our Lord on August 25, 2024. He was a dear son, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Bill was born on January 12, 1936, to his parents, Willie and Mary Ermis Hubenak. He attended schools in El Campo and graduated from Wharton High School in 1954. Bill married Alene Ann Sablatura on September 5, 1959, at St Andrews Catholic Church in Hillje.
Bill was very active in rice, turf and cattle production until his retirement. After retirement, he leased the farm out but continued with the cattle ranching. Bill enjoyed entertaining family and friends with the accordion, piano and his singing and formed a family band named The Western Express with his teenage children. The band played at many weddings and local venues over the years. Bill enjoyed being involved in the different activities his children were involved with.
Bill was a member of Wharton County Farm Bureau, Capital Farm Credit, KJZT in El Campo, Knights of Columbus and Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton. He played piano and accordion in various churches and nursing homes through the years.
Bill was in the Army Reserves in Bay City for 6 years, earning his discharge from the Armed Forces of the United States of America on October 31, 1962. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Georgia Mae and Willie Mae and brothers-in-law, Frank Popp, Jr. and Francis H. Stock.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Alene Hubenak, children; Russell Hubenak and wife Patti, Douglas Hubenak and wife Samantha and Tamara Hubenak Harrell and husband Todd. Grandchildren; Will and wife Bethany Hubenak, Haley Hubenak, Jamie and husband Matt Feyen, Jason and wife Allison Hubenak, Jared Hubenak, Ty Harrell and Trey and wife Heather Harrell. Great Grandchildren; Logan and Levi Hubenak, Braley, Barrett and Brynn Feyen and Mayci and Weston Hubenak.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, starting at 9:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. and a Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Serving as pallbearers are his nephews, Curtis Eggemeyer, Ryan Jung, Wayne Young, Clark Popp, Darren Stock, Kenny Priesmeyer, Gregory Popp, and Greg Eggemeyer
The family would like to express their gratitude to Bill’s caregiver, Sandra Zemanek and special friends, Jimmy Sansing and Salvador.
