On Wednesday, December 1, 2021, Mark V. Lowry, loving husband and father of 2 children, went home to heaven at the age of 73.
Mark was born on November 9, 1948 in Plymouth, IN to Coleman and Rosalie (Easterday) Lowry. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Indiana, and it was during this undergraduate education that he met and married the love of his life, Sharon Ann Franz. He then went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Environmental Health Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. Shortly thereafter, he welcomed a son, Jeff, and then daughter, Angela, to his family. He delighted in being both a husband and a dad.
During the course of his engineering career, he worked for the Texas State Health Department, the Houston engineering firm of Turner, Collie, & Braden (which later became part of the AECOM engineering firm), and the Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District.
Although Mark gave himself fully to everything he did, his real passion was following Jesus into the lives of other people and making the world a better place through sharing the work of his hands and the love of Christ. He would unquestionably say that the real achievements of his life were in the loving relationships he had with his family, especially those with his grandchildren, and the work that he did through Habitat for Humanity of Wharton County, the Carol Vance & Jester III Kairos Prison Ministry, and Community Fellowship Church of East Bernard. In all of these places, he put his ready smile, generous spirit, and compassionate heart to good use, always blessing the people around him with words of encouragement.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Coleman, and his mother Rosalie. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, his two children, Jeff and Angela, his daughter and son-in law, Donna Lowry and Andrew Clemens, his grandchildren, Colten and Hailey Brown, Jeremy Lowry, and Addie, Alaina, and Analise Clemens, and his sisters and their spouses, Sally and Dick Large, Judy and Carl Wagoner, and Martha and Marston McGwin, and various cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service and reception will be held for him on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at 3 o’clock p.m. at Simonton Community Church on FM 1489 in Simonton, TX. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you send donations in Mark’s name to the following ministries that were near and dear to his heart: Kairos Prison Ministry (www.carolvancekairos.org), Community Fellowship of East Bernard (www.cfeb.church), and Save the Children (www.savethechildren.org).
